My Review

Just in case you were thinking of taking up mountain climbing, watching the movie “Everest” may change your mind. The story is based on the real life events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, where several people from two expedition groups lost their lives.

The suspense keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, especially when viewed in 3D on the huge IMAX screen. Director Baltasar Kormakur (“2 Guns” 2013), screenwriters William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy, and cinematographer Salvatore Totino made the film so realistic that one feels they are actually on Mt. Everest. Most of the location shoots were in the Otztal Alps in Northern Italy.

The large number of actors worked well together, with the ensemble including Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Emily Watson, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Kelly, Thomas Wright, Martin Henderson, Elizabeth Debicki, Naoko Mori, Clive Standen, Vanessa Kirby, Charlotte Boving, and Vijay Lama.

Everyone seemed to scale new heights in the very watchable “Everest,” a success at the box office for Universal Pictures.
