My Review

“Event Horizon” is a science fiction horror film that tells the story of a crew of astronauts in 2047 sent on a rescue mission to find a missing space ship. It is discovered in orbit around the planet Neptune with the original crew dead and a mysterious and sinister lifeform on board. Director Paul Anderson (“Mortal Kombat” 1995) attempts to put together an exciting scifi film but gets bogged down in excessive reliance on gore and violence; it seems to be mimicking “Alien” (1979). Much credit goes to the mediocre screenplay by Philip Eisner.

The cast turns in acceptable performances, which includes Lawrence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson (daughter of Vanessa Redgrave), Sean Pertwee (son of Jon Pertwee, the third Doctor Who), Richard T. Jones, Jack Noseworthy, Jason Isaacs, Noah Huntley, and Robert Jezek as a Rescue Technician. The fair-to-middling watchable film “Event Horizon” was a flop at the box office for Impact Pictures, Golar Productions, and Paramount Pictures.
