My Review

“Erin Brockovich” is a modern day David & Goliath story, expertly put together by director Steven Soderbergh (“Traffic” 2000) and screenwriter Susannah Grant. It tells the true story of paralegal Erin Brockovich and her legal fight with the energy giant Pacific Gas and Electric for its pollution of a small town in Central California.

Julia Roberts delivered an energetic and spirited performance, one that we always expect from her in dramas like this. She won the Oscar for Best Actress. Her co-stars include Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart, Marg Helgenberger, Tracy Walter, Peter Coyote, Cherry Jones, Conchata Ferrell, T. J. Thyne, Gina Gallego, Valente Rodriguez, Michael Harney, Veanne Cox, Scotty Leavenworth, and Scarlett Pomers, most famous for her role as Naomi Wildman on TV’s “Star Trek: Voyager” (1998-2001).

“Erin Brockovich” won one Academy Award and was nominated for four more: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Finney). It was a big hit at the box office for producer Danny DeVito, Jersey Films, Columbia Pictures, and Universal Pictures.
