My Review

“Elf” is a Christmas comedy film that tells the story of a man who has been raised at the North Pole by Santa Clause and his elves, due to the fact that, as a baby, he crawls into Santa’s sack and is unwittingly taken back to the North Pole. When he discovers his true identity as a human, he travels to New York City to search for his family. The hilarity and hijinks proceed from there.

Director Jon Favreau (“Deep Impact” 1998) and screenwriter David Berenbaum created a film that is light-hearted holiday fun with marvelous performances, especially Will Ferrell in the lead role. He is funny and charming, and this spills over to the other cast members. They include James Caan as his father, Zooey Deschanel as a love interest, Mary Steenburgen as his step-mother, Ed Asner as Santa Clause, Bob Newhart as the narrator, Daniel Tay as his half-brother, as well as Peter Dinklage, Amy Sedaris, Andy Richter, Matt Walsh, Mark Acheson, Artie Lange, Michael Lerner, and Jon Favreau in a cameo appearance as the family pediatrician.

The watchable “Elf” is a film full of Yuletide cheer, a hit in theatrical release for Guy Walks Into a Bar Productions and New Line Cinema.
