“Dumb Money” is a comedy-drama film about the true story of the Game Shop “short squeeze” of January, 2021, where this company’s stock unexpectedly rose, providing enormous profit to shareholders. Sloppy directing by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella” 2021) and untidy writing by authors of the screenplay Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo lead to an unorganized and chaotic feel to the movie.
The cast seemed hyped up on something, delivering terrible performances, which includes Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shallene Woodley, Seth Rogan, Dana DeHaan, Talia Ryder, Clancy Brown, Olivia Thrilby, and Kate Burton, daughter of the legendary Richard Burton.
The hard to watch “Dumb Money” has been a disappointment at the box office for Ryder Picture Company, Black Bear Pictures, Stage 6 Films, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
