My Review

“Dracula Untold” differs from past Dracula pictures and gives the vampire a backstory, going from Prince Vlad of Transylvania to war hero to family man to vampire. First time director Gary Shore and screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless seemed to be attempting to portray him in a sympathetic light, which does not make the grade as it is difficult to give a blood-thirsty, murdering vampire an almost superhero image.

“Dracula Untold” does not really succeed as a film but does provide plenty of action sequences to satisfy some movie-goers. It was moderately successful at the box office for Universal Pictures. The actors did their job well enough, with Luke Evans sinking his teeth into the title role. The supporting cast includes Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon, Art Parkinson, William Houston, and Charles Dance as the Master Vampire, the guy who turns Dracula into a vampire.
