My Review

“Dr. Dolittle” is another poorly made remake that Hollywood insists on force-feeding to the general public. Director Betty Thomas (“The Brady Bunch Movie” 1995) and screenwriters Larry Levin and Nat Mauldin have given us a movie with a predictable plot, stupid human dialogue, even more ridiculous celebrity-voiced animal chatter, and general chaos.

Heading up the live-action cast is Eddie Murphy, who has not come out with anything original in years. Joining him are Ossie Davis, Kristen Wilson, Peter Boyle, Jeffrey Tambor, Raven-Symone, Paul Giamatti, and Richard Schiff. The voice cast includes Garry Shandling, Norm MacDonald, Kevin Spacey, Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, John Leguizamo, Julie Kavner, Jenna Elfman, Jonathan Lipnicki, and Paul Reubens.

“Dr. Dolittle” did have some success in theatrical release for Fox Family Films, Davis Entertainment, Joseph M. Singer Entertainment, Friendly Films, and 20th Century Fox. Our diagnosis is clear: “Dr. Dolittle” has gone to the dogs.
