Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell lend their considerable comedic talents to the dark comedy-drama “Downhill.” This story of a married couple who survive a near death experience from an avalanche while on vacation contains numerous funny and entertaining scenes, causing the 86 minute picture to move quickly.
Directors-screenwriters Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (“The Descendents” 2011) did a marvelous job of adapting this project from the 2014 Swedish movie “Force Majeure.” (They co-wrote the screenplay with Jesse Armstrong.) Co-stars include Miranda Otto, Zoe Chao, Zach Woods, Julian Grey.
The very watchable “Downhill” is well worth the view on dvd, with Louis-Dreyfus and Ferrell giving the audience lots of laughs; there are many opportunities for them to use their acting skills in a different project than we have grown accustom to seeing them in. It is the first release from Searchlight Pictures, formerly Fox Searchlight Pictures, since the purchase of 20th Century Fox from The Walt Disney Company.
