My Review

“Down and Out in Beverly Hills” is an uproariously hilarious comedy about a wealthy couple who try to help a homeless man by taking him into their home. There are lots of laughs in this film due to focused direction by Paull Mazursky (“Moscow on the Hudson” 1984) and well-penned screenplay by Leon Capetanos and Mazursky.

The three primary cast members execute the material superbly. Nick Nolte, Bette Midler, and Richard Dreyfuss are exceptional in their roles. Co-stars include Elizabeth Pena, Little Richard, Evan Richards, Felton Perry, Dorothy Tristan, and Tracy Nelson (daughter of Rick Nelson) as Dreyfuss’ and Midler’s daughter.

Andy Summers, formerly of the rock band The Police, composed the musical score. The very watchable “Down and Out in Beverly Hills” was a big hit at the box office for producer Paul Mazursky, Touchstone Films, Silver Screen Partners II, Buena Vista Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
