My Review

“Dolittle” is an absolutely terrible film in almost every way: Bad writing, amateurish gags, a boring storyline, lack-luster special effects, and dismal performances by cast members. Director Stephen Gaghan (“Syriana” 2005), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, has released this complete disaster of a film into theaters, with only mild success at the box office. A huge budget and high advertising costs caused Universal Pictures to lose money big time.

The star, Robert Downey Jr., should have stayed home, as this is definitely a low point in his career. He was at least was probably well paid, being a major star and all. The supporting cast includes Harry Collett, Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, and Jessie Buckley as Queen Victoria. The voice cast for the animals includes such notables as Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez.

The Unwatchable “Dolittle” is a remake of 1967’s “Doctor Dolittle” starring Rex Harrison, also an atrocious cinematic product, both not worth wasting two hours viewing them on dvd.
