My Review

Stunning special effects and an upbeat Disney storyline combine to make “Dinosaur” an exciting live-action animated adventure film. The story is about an orphaned dinosaur, and his adopted family of lemurs, who must all flee as the island they live on is destroyed by a meteor shower. They soon join a migration of other dinosaurs to the “nesting ground.”

The FX people at Disney created a beautiful primeval world by using film for the background from numerous locations: Australia, Western Samoa, California, Florida, Hawaii, and more. The computer-generated dinosaurs were then placed on the screen, creating live-action characters that talk in the English language. It is quite an amazing cinematic feat.

The voice cast includes some talented actors, such as D. B. Sweeney, Alfre Woodward, Ossie Davis, Max Casella, Julianna Margulies, Joan Plowright, Della Reese, Hayden Panettiere, Samuel E. Wright, Peter Siragusa, and Michael T. Weiss.

Although “Dinosaur” did well at the box office, it only earned enough money to roughly break even, due to the expensive production and advertising expenses. Bad new for The Secret Lab, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Walt Disney Pictures, and Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, all divisions of The Walt Disney Company.
