My Review

“Dick” is a hilarious comedy about two fifteen-year-old girls who unwittingly, in an almost Forest Gump style, become acquainted with President Richard Nixon, who makes them his official dog-walkers, giving them daily access to the White House. They soon become involved with the Watergate scandal, and the hilarity proceeds from there.

Director Andrew Fleming (“Threesome” 1994) did a good job of organizing the wacky situations that retell the Watergate situation; he co-wrote the screenplay with Sheryl Longin. The cast is headed by Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst, both of whom do very well in this film early in their respective careers. It is no surprise that they both have gone on to big success in the picture business. Dan Hedaya is perfect as Nixon, both in manner and appearance.

The supporting cast includes Dave Foley as H. R. Haldeman, Harry Shearer as G. Gordon Liddy, Will Ferrell as Bob Woodward, Saul Rubinek as Dr. Henry Kissinger, as well as Bruce McCulloch, Teri Garr, Ted McGinley, Ryan Reynolds, G. D. Spradlin, Ana Gasteyer, Jim Breuer, Devon Gummersall, Karl Pruner, and French Stewart.

“Dick” was not successful at the box office for producer Gale Anne Hurd, Pheonix Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
