My Review

Naomi Watts turns in a strong performances as Diana, the troubled Princess of Wales, in the dramatic movie “Diana.” German director Oliver Hirschbiegel created an interesting biopic which concentrated on the last two years of her life and her secret relationship with Pakistani surgeon Hasnat Khan. The adequate screenplay was written by Stephen Jeffreys, adapted from the 2001 book “Diana: Her Last Love” by Kate Snell.

The supporting cast behind Naomi Watts includes Naveen Andrews as Dr. Khan, Cas Anvar as Dodi Fayed, Laurence Belcher as Prince William, Harry Holland as Prince Harry, Douglas Hodge as her butler, Charles Edwards as her private secretary, and Geraldine James, Mary Stockley, and Juliet Stevenson in various supporting roles.

The watchable “Diana,” panned by critics, was actually a modest success in theatrical release for Ecosse Films, Le Pacte, Film i Vast, Filmgate Films, Scope Pictures, MP Film, Metrodome Distribution, and Entertainment One. Naomi Watts received two Golden Raspberry nominations that year for Worst Actress for “Diana” and “Movie 43,” losing out to Tyler Perry in “A Madea Christmas.”
