Director Alfred Hitchcock put together yet another classic suspense crime drama in “Dial M for Murder.” The film is the story of a tennis player who attempts to murder his wife to get his hands on her inheritance. However, the person he hired botched the job and the riveting drama proceeds from there. The sterling screenplay was penned by Frederick Knott, adapted from his own 1952 play of the same name.
The cast is headed by three big stars: Ray Milland as the tennis pro, Grace Kelly as his wife, and Robert Cummings as her boyfriend. They deliver excellent performances. This was the first of three films Kelly would appear in for Hitch, the other two being “Rear Window” (1954) and “To Catch a Thief” (1955). Co-stars include John Williams, Anthony Dawson, Leo Britt, Patrick Allen, Robin Hughes, and Martin Milner. “Dial M for Murder” was a hit at the box office for producer Alfred Hitchcock and Warner Bros. Pictures.
