“Despicable Me 4” is the latest in the popular franchise continuing the story of reformed supervillain and secret agent Gru relocating his family to a safehouse because his old enemy Maxime La Mal is seeking revenge. The movie has entertaining subplots dealing with his children adjusting to their new lives. The Minions are also involved per usual. Director Chris Renaud (“The Secret Life of Pets” 2016) has loaded the film with plenty of sight gags, slapstick comedy, and colorful animation, although the overall quality seems to be down a bit from the first three films (2010, 2013, 2017).
The cast includes Steve Carrell (Gru), Will Ferrell (La Mal), Kristen Wiig, Joey King, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Dana Gaier, Chris Renaud, John DiMaggio, Laraine Newman, and Pierre Coffin as the Minions, Gru’s little yellow henchmen. Some say the Minions are the real star of the show! “Despicable Me 4” has been very successful in theatrical release for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures.
