My Review

Bette Davis plays twin sisters at odds with each other in “Dead Ringer.” One of the sisters steals a husband from the other, and when he passes away, the jilted sister is out for revenge. Davis is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars of all time in a career that ran from 1931 to 1989, and her talents are running on all cylinders here.

Excellent direction by Paul Henreid (“Girls on the Loose” 1958) and outstanding writing by Albert Beich and Oscar Millard have contributed to an engrossing morality play that holds the audience’s attention from start to finish. Co-stars includes Karl Malden, Peter Lawford, Philip Carey, Jean Hagen, George Macready, Estelle Winwood, George Chandler, Bert Remsen, Ken Lynch, and Cyril Delevanti.

“Dead Ringer” had some success in theatrical release for Warner Bros. Pictures. Ms. Davis had previously played twins in the 1946 movie “A Stolen Life.”
