My Review

“Daylight” is a disaster film about the collapse of New York City’s Holland Tunnel, trapping numerous people inside. Sylvester Stallone plays the hero who makes valiant attempts to rescue the endangered citizens. Though the movie offers nothing we haven’t seen before, director Rob Cohen (“Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story” 1993) makes efficient use of the lean script by Leslie Bohem. The two hour film moves at a fast pace to a satisfying conclusion, a story with a beginning, middle, and end.

Sly’s supporting cast includes a variety of capable actors, including Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Dan Hedaya, Stan Shaw, Jay O. Sanders, Sage Stallone, Rosemary Forsyth, Colin Fox, Karen Young, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Renoly Santiago, Danielle Harris, Trina McGee, Mark Rolston, Luoyoung Wong, Lee Oates, Barry Newman, and Claire Bloom, veteran actress whose career began in 1948. “Daylight’ was successful at the box office for Davis Entertainment and Universal Pictures.
