Diane Keaton rescues a stray dog and decides to keep it, must to the consternation of her physician husband in “Darling Companion.” Director Lawrence Kasdan (“Silverado” 1985) put together a run-of-the-mill dog picture which he co-wrote with his wife Meg Kasdan. The film is not offensive in any way, but is a bit on the boring side. Dog-lovers should enjoy it immensely, as will art house cinema attendees.
The cast along with Keaton includes Kevin Kline as her husband, Elizabeth Moss as her daughter, Sam Shepard as the sheriff, Dianne Wiest as her best friend, Mark Duplass, Richard Jenkins, Ayelet Zurer, and Jay Ali. The somewhat watchable “Darling Companion” was a flop at the box office for producer Lawrence Kasdan, Werc Werk Works, Likely Story, Kasdan Pictures, and Sony Pictures Classics.
