My Review

“Cyrus” is a quirky little comedy about a woman whose 23-year-old son begins interfering with her relationship with her new boyfriend. Directors-screenwriters Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass (“The Puffy Chair” 2005) gave the film a smooth pace and believability, as some of the dialogue was improvised (called “mumblecore,” often used by the Duplass brothers in their films).

The talented cast is headed by Jonah Hill as the son and Marisa Tomei and John C. Reilly as the happy couple. Other actors include Catherine Keener, Matt Walsh, Katie Aselton, Jamie Donnelly, Tim Guinee, and Steve Zissis. The low-budget but entertaining and watchable “Cyrus” barely made any money in theatrical release for Scott Free Productions and Fox Searchlight Pictures.
