Clint Eastwood’s legendary motion picture career that began in 1955 with “Francis in the Navy” continues well into the 21st century with “Cry Macho,” which he co-produced, directed, and starred in. This story of a retired rodeo star who is hired to travel into Mexico to seek out his friend’s son and return him to America is a well-planned and well-organized movie. The tight direction by Eastwood and an economic screenplay by Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash, adapted from Nash’s 1975 novel of the same name, make “Cry Macho” a fast moving 104 minutes viewing time.
Eastwood at age 91 still commands an impressive presence on the big screen, but his advancing years have taken a toll on his delivery; his mature years have robbed him of some of his on-screen energy. The supporting cast includes Dwight Yoakam, Eduardo Minett, Natalia Traven and Fernando Urrejola. There was limited success at the box office due to the COVID situation, no doubt a disappointment to Warner Bros. Pictures. We at least still have one of the great movie stars of time, Clint Eastwood, to enjoy in the watchable film “Cry Macho.”
