Emma Stone delivered a tour de force performance as Cruella de Vil in the current motion picture “Cruella.” The character based on the 1956 novel by Dodie Smith and the 1961 Disney film “One Hundred and one Dalmatians” followed a bit of a different storyline than its predecessors, exploring her dysfunctional childhood and its effect upon her life and career.
A highlight of the film (for some) was a cat fight between Stone’s de Vil and Emma Thompson’s Baroness Von Hellman. The two Oscar winning actors did not disappoint. Director Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya“ 2017 ) and screenwriters Dana Fox and Tony McNamara did a good job of balancing drama and comedy.
The supporting cast includes Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell–Baptiste, Mark Strong. The watchable “Cruella” was a solid hit at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures.
