“Convoy” is a comedy film about a trucker leading a convoy of fellow big-riggers protesting his recent run-in with law enforcement. Director Sam Peckinpah (“Major Dundee” 1965) and screenwriter B. W. L. Norton managed to put out a film that is mildly entertaining but obviously a lackluster and inferior version of “Smokey and the Bandit” (1977).
The stars include Kris Kristofferson as the lead trucker, Ernest Borgnine as the conniving sheriff, Ali MacGraw as the girl friend, along with Burt Young, Madge Sinclair, Franklyn Ajaye, Cassie Yates, Donnie Fritts, Tommy Bush, and Seymour Cassel as The Governor. All are part of the watchable, albeit predictable, box office success “Convoy” from EMI Films and United Artists.
