My Review

Producer Lorne Michaels failed to achieve lift-off with a feature length motion picture version of his “Saturday Night Live” “Coneheads” skits. Poor direction by Steve Barron (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” 1990) and even worse writing by Tom Davis, Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner, and Dan Aykroyd sealed the fate of this stellar burnout. The Coneheads comedy bits were never funny anyway, except to the diehard fans of SNL.

Jane Curtain and Dan Aykroyd reprised their old roles of Beldar and Prymaat Conehead, much to our dismay. Even a parade of big names, SNL and otherwise, did not help: David Spade, Chris Farley, Michael McKean, Michael Richards, Sinbad, Eddie Griffin, Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Jason Alexander, Laraine Newman, Drew Carey, Garrett Morris, Kevin Nealon, Jan Hooks, Parker Posey, Julia Sweeney, Ellen DeGeneres, Tim Meadows, and Jon Lovitz and Tom Arnold in uncredited roles.

“Coneheads” crashed and burned at the box office big time, much to the dismay of Lorne Michaels Productions, NBC Films, and Paramount Pictures.
