My Review

“Conclave” is a mystery thriller film about the death of the Pope and the College of Cardinals gathering in seclusion to replace him. The College is surprised to meet a new Archbishop of Kabul, secretly installed by the late Pope, with subsequent revelations having the potential to cause trouble for the Church. Director Edward Berger (“All Quiet on the Western Front” 2022) was successful in putting together a movie filled with good production values, professional performances, and suspense, from a screenplay by Peter Straughan, based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Robert Harris.

Some critics within Catholicism state that the film is biased towards progressive (left wing) viewpoints. We will leave these sort of judgements for viewers to decide. The watchable “Conclave” has underperformed at the box office for FilmNation Entertainment, House Productions, Black Bear UK, and Focus Features. The stars of the show are Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, Sergio Castelitto, Lucian Msamati, Brain F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, and Jacek Koman.
