Jay Leno and Pat Morita star in a comedy-action-buddy film where they play police officers, Leno from Detroit and Morita from Japan, forced to work together trying to recover a stolen “turbocharger.” Director Lewis Teague (“The Jewel of the Nile” 1985) seemed to throw this picture together with a so-so screenplay written by Frank Darius Namei and Robert Resnikoff. There are laughs in the movie, but probably due more to Leno’s and Morita’s experience with comedy than anything else.
The supporting cast includes Chris Sarandon, Ernie Hudson, Tom Noonan, John Hancock, Al Waxman, and Soon-Tek Oh. This independent production from Interscope Communications and the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group ran out of money on the last day of shooting, with no budget for editing. post-production, or a few key scenes not yet shot. “Collision Course” did not see the light of day until it was released on home video in 1992.
