Walt Disney Pictures went first class all the way with the new live action version of the old story “Cinderella.” Director Kenneth Branagh (“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” 2014) and screenwriter Chris Weitz employed the highest production values possible in the remake of this age old classic, based on the 1950 Disney animated musical film and the 1697 book by Charles Perrault.
The actors were all perfectly cast in their respective roles. Lily James is a beautiful Ella, with Eloise Webb as the young Ella. Co-stars include Richard Madden as Prince Charming, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother, Derek Jacobi as the King, Stellan Skarsgard as the Grand Duke, Ben Chaplin as Ella’s father, Hayley Atwell as Ella’s mother, and Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera as the stepsisters.
“Cinderella” was very successful in theatrical release for The Walt Disney Company, making enough cash to buy many, many glass slippers.
