John Wayne is definitely the star of the show in “Chisum,” where he plays a rancher and cattle baron who gets caught in the middle of the Lincoln County War of 1878 in New Mexico. Director Andrew V. McLaglen (“Bandolero!” 1968) and screenwriter-producer Andrew J. Fenady instilled the motion picture with the highest quality production values that are always present in Batjac Productions, owned by Wayne himself. That means fantastic writing, great acting, stunning cinematography, top-rate costumes, authentic sets, etc., etc.
The Duke’s co-stars include Forrest Tucker, Christopher George, Lynda Day, Ben Johnson, Ben Corbett, Andrew Prince, Bruce Cabot, Patric Knowles, Richard Jaeckel, John Agar, Lloyd Battista, Robert Donner, Ray Teal, Pedro Armendariz Jr., John Mitchum, Christopher Mitchum, and Pamela McMyler as Sallie Chisum and Geoffrey Deuel as Billy “The Kid” Bonney.
The very watchable “Chisum,” without a doubt a John Wayne vehicle, was a hit in theatrical release for Batjac Production and Warner Bros. Pictures.
