My Review

Independent movie director John Curran (“The Painted Veil” 2006) has made an even-handed and unbiased look at the 1969 incident where Sen. Edward Kennedy drove his car into a pond on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts, killing 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne. Australian actor Jason Clarke was more than convincing as Ted Kennedy, turning in his Aussie accent for the very distinctive Bostonian twang.

Two members of the supporting cast deliver some gripping performances: Kate Mara as Mary Jo Kopchne and Bruce Dern as Joseph P. Kennedy were absolutely riveting in their roles. Others include Jim Gaffigan, Ed Helms, Taylor Nichols, Andria Blackman, John Fiore, Lexie Roth, Olivia Thirlby, and Clancy Brown as Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, in charge of the Kennedy family damage control team. All part of “Chappaquiddick,” fascinating fare from Apex Entertainment.
