“Champagne for Caesar” is a comedy film about a genius man who enters a television quiz show with the goal of bankrupting the show’s sponsor, who turned him down for a job. He keeps answering questions correctly and becomes a media sensation. The owners must then find a way to stop him or will end up bankrupt. The screwball comedy proceeds from there, adequately directed by Richard Whorf (“Luxury Liner” 1948) from a screenplay by Fred Brady and Hans Jacoby.
The talented cast did an outstanding job of executing their various roles to make this an entertaining screwball comedy. They include Ronald Colman as the whiz kid, Celeste Holm as a “Delilah” type, Vincent Price as the show’s sponsor, Art Linkletter as the game show host, as well as Barbara Britton, Lyle Talbot, Gabriel Heater, Byron Foldger, Ellye Marshall, John Hart, Peter Brocco, and Mel Blanc as the voice of Caesar. The watchable and entertaining “Champagne for Caesar” was a production of Cardinal Pictures and United Artists.
