My Review

“Caught Stealing” is a crime drama movie about a man who suddenly finds himself involved with tough gangsters who mistake him for his crooked neighbor’s associate. Director Darren Aronofsky (“The Whale” 2022) put together a riveting crime drama with a superbly crafted storyline, great performances, and a well honed screenplay by Charlie Huston, which does give an edgy tone to the film.

The cast delivered memorable performances especially Austin Butler in the lead role, who apparently has a wide range as an actor as he is also remembered for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in “Elvis” (2022). His talented co-stars include Regina King as the policewoman, Zoe Kravitz as his girl friend, Matt Smith as his creepy neighbor, Liev Schreiber and Vincent D’Onofrio as Hasidic brothers, Carol Kane as their mother, Laura Dern as Butler’s mum, Griffin Dunne as a barkeep, Yuri Kolokolnikov and Nikita Kukushkin as Russian mobsters, Benito Martinez Ocasio as their Puerto Rican associate, and Tonic as Bud the cat.

The very watchable and engrossing “Caught Stealing” came in at number three over the Labor Day weekend box office for producer Darren Aronofsky, Columbia Pictures, Protozoa Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
