My Review

Laurence Olivier put on his own inimitable version of Tennessee William’s 1955 play “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” featuring himself, Maureen Stapleton, Natalie Wood, and Robert Wagner in the starring roles. Though not as polished as the 1958 motion picture for theatrical release starring Elizabeth Taylor, this production was nonetheless an engrossing television recording of a stage play that was aired in 1976 as on of six plays in “Laurence Olivier Presents.”

The entire cast was superb and outstanding and everyone made enormous contributions to the project, but the fact of the matter is that the center of attention seemed to gravitate towards the alluring Wood whenever she appeared in a scene. Natalie Wood stole the show, no doubt about it. She was married to Wagner at the time.

Other actors include Jack Hedley, Mary Peach, David Healy. The producer of the watchable “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” was Sir Laurence Olivier himself, with Robert Moore directing for Granada TV.
