“Broken City” is a modern day noir crime drama featuring Mark Wahlberg playing an ex-cop who is hired by the Mayor of New York City (Russell Crowe) to investigate his wife, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. In the process, Wahlberg’s character discovers some unsavory facts about the Mayor.
These big stars do not disappoint in this exciting movie, well directed by Allen Hughes (“Knights of the South Bronx” 2005) with a good screenplay by Brian Tucker. The supporting cast includes Jeffrey Wright, Barry Pepper, Alona Tal, Natalie Martinez, Michael Beach, Kyle Chandler, Griffin Dunne, et al.
Also worth mentioning is the better than average cinematography by Ben Seresin; the filming took place in New York City and New Orleans. “Broken City” was not very successful at the box office, unfortunately for producers Allen Hughes and Mark Wahlberg and 20th Century Fox.
