My Review

A late 1960’s film called “Boom!” can best be described as an Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton vehicle. This motion picture, adapted from the Tennessee Williams play “The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore,” is completely dominated by the legendary couple in virtually every scene.

“Boom!” was well directed by Joseph Losey (“King and Country” 1964) and the screenplay was penned by Williams himself. The scenery was simply stunning, and, with filming on the island of Sardinia, cinematographer Douglas Slocombe couldn’t help but do an outstanding job. The small supporting cast includes Noel Coward, Joanna Shimkus, Michael Dunn, and Howard Taylor (Liz’s brother).

“Boom!” was one of twelve motion pictures Burton and Taylor appeared in together. Fans of the famous pair will enjoy the nearly two hour Universal Pictures release; others may not. A memorable line from Liz Taylor: “Has it ever occurred to you that life is only a memory……The shock of each moment is still being alive!”
