“Bombshell” is director Jay Roach’s comprehensive look at Fox News under Roger Ailes and his harassment of numerous women including Megan Kelly and Gretchen Carlson. The performances by John Lithgow, Charlize Theron, and Nicole Kidman, respectively, in these roles are truly outstanding. They really made this picture.
The screenplay is very organized and clearly written which helps the audience navigate its way through the numerous characters and complex situations depicted. Kudos to screenwriter Charles Randolph and director Roach (“Austin Powers” series, 1997, 1999, 2002), who also co-produced with Theron.
The “Bombshell” supporting cast also included some notable performers, including Allison Janney as Susan Estrich, Malcolm McDowell as Rupert Murdoch, Richard Kind as Rudolph Giuliani, Margot Robbie, Connie Britton, Rob Delaney, Kate McKinnon, Tricia Helfer, Brian d’Arcy James, Kevin Dorff as Bill O’Reilly, and Spencer Garrett as Sean Hannity. There were many others too numerous to mention.
“Bombshell” from Lionsgate has not been a big hit at the box office this holiday season, but is definitely watchable viewing nonetheless.
