My Review

John Wayne stars in the highly entertaining “Blue Steel,” a B-movie western. He plays a U. S. Marshall working undercover to capture the Polka Dot Bandit, who has stolen four thousand dollars from a small-town hotel.

The supporting cast includes George “Gabby” Hayes as the town sheriff and stuntman Yakima Canutt playing the Polka Dot Bandit, the heavy of the piece. Co-stars include Eleanor Hunt, Edward Peil, Lafe McKee, George Cleveland, Barney Beasley, Hank Bell, and Earl Dwire.

Producer Paul Malvern and director-screenwriter Robert N. Bradbury skillfully put together this “pre-Code” western picture from Genius Entertainment and Monogram Pictures. It has a running time of 54 minutes. Cinematographer Archie Stout did a fantastic job of filming “Blue Steel” on location somewhere in California’s vast mountain ranges.
