My Review

“Blade Runner 2049” is, to put it bluntly, boring as heck. This sequel to 1982’s “Blade Runner” suffers from a slow-moving storyline that makes this nearly two-and-a-half hour movie seem to last forever. We have Denis Villeneuve to thank for this; he is a very cerebral director who had some success with “Arrival” back in 2016, but has a box office disappointment on his hands here.

Screenwriters Hampton Fancher and Michael Green adapted and extended the story and characters from the original film and the 1968 novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Philip K. Dick. The actors perform well enough, with the popular Ryan Gosling in the lead. Harrison Ford returns in the final third of the film, underwhelming viewers. Others include Robin Wright, Jaret Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Dave Bautista, Lennie James, and Edward James Olmos returning as Guff from “Blade Runner.” Sean Young came back as Rachael, not in person but courtesy of computer-generated imagery.

Save yourself some time and run away from Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Blade Runner 2049.”
