My Review

“Black Bag” is an espionage spy thriller telling the story of a British intelligence officer who is given the assignment of investigating five possible traitors, one of whom could be his wife. He invites them all to a dinner party, with some twists and turns as subtle “interrogations” proceed. Director Steven Soderbergh (“Erin Brockovich” 2000) attempts to piece together a smart spy movie, but only ends up with lackluster dinner table conversation that bores the audience for the 94 minute running time. Part of the credit goes to the tedious screenplay by David Keopp.

The performances by cast members are equally unmemorable and unimpressive. The stars include Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Naomie Harris, Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Rege-Jean Page, Gustaf Skarsgard, Kae Alexander, and Ambika Mod. This unwatchable art house cinema material “Black Bag” has only modest success in general release this month for Casey Silver Productions, Focus Features, and Universal Pictures.
