My Review

“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” is a science fiction comedy film about two teenagers attempt to pass the final exam in their history class by using a time machine to bring historical figures from the past. They would then interview them before a student assembly at their high school in San Dimas, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Director Stephen Herek (“Critters”) 1986) and screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon provide good material for stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter to do their thing. Reeves, in his motion picture debut, went on to superstardom as a result.

The supporting cast is headed by comedian George Carlin as Rufus, the man from the future who provides our two heroes with the time machine. Carlin did quite well in this small, but pivotal, role. Others include Hal Landon Jr., Bernie Casey, Amy Stock-Poynton, J. Patrick McNamara, Frazier Bain. Actors playing famous people include Robert V. Barron as Abraham Lincoln, Tony Steedman as Socrates, Al Leong as Genghis Khan, Tony Camilleri as Napoleon, Dan Shor as Billy the Kid, Ron Loomis as Sigmond Freud, and Clifford David as Beethoven.

The watchable “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” was a success at the box office for Interscope Communications, Nelson Entertainment, and Orion Pictures. The film spawned two sequels: “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” (1991) and “Bill & Ted Face the Music” (2020).
