The success of the best-seller does not translate to the big screen probably due to lack of originality in the material, despite the independent filmmaker’s use of big name actors in the cast.
They include Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, Judith Ivy, Jenna Elfman, Jane Krakowski, Jasmine Guy, Mary Pat Gleason, Anthony LaPaglia, John Benjamin Hickey, and Chris Sarandon. They all seem like one-dimensional characters just reciting lines. This big yawner “Big Stone Gap” may be a popular rental on DVD among the chick-flick crowd.
