“Beyond the Mask” is an interesting faith-based historical film about a man who was an assassin for the British East India Company, and his attempts to start a new life in the America English colonies after a conversion to Christianity. Lots of drama proceeds from there. Director Chad Burns (“Pendragon: Sword of His Father” 2008) and screenwriter Paul McCusker have created a great period piece with an evangelical Christian message.
The cast is headed by Andrew Cheney who plays William Reynolds, the assassin-turned-vicar. Co-stars include John Rhys-Davies, Kara Kilmer, Adetokumboh M’Cormack, Steve Blackwood, Thomas D. Mahard, and John Arden McClure as George Washington and Alan Madlane as Ben Franklin. “Beyond the Mask” was a production of the Burns Family Studios, not terribly successful at the box office but a great view on DVD.
