My Review

Julie Christie gave an excellent performance as a woman slipping into Alzheimer’s disease in “Away From Her.” She was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, under the tutelage of director-screenwriter Sarah Polley, who adapted it from a 2001 short story by Alice Munro. Polley received the movie’s second Academy Award nomination, for Best Adapted Screenplay. Not bad for this being Polley’s feature film debut.

The supporting cast includes Gordon Pinsent, Olympia Dukakis, Michael Murphy, Kristen Thomson, Wendy Crewson, Stacey LaBerge, Nina Dobrev, Grace Lynn Kung, and Melanie Murkosky as the Singing Nurse. “Away From Her” from Lionsgate did not make much money in theatrical release, even in art house cinemas.
