My Review

The sequel to 2009’s blockbuster “Avatar” is out in theaters this Christmas season. “Avatar: The Way of Water” exceeds the quality of the original, with even better special effects and a fast-moving storyline that makes for an astoundingly enjoyable three hours and twelve minutes in the picture show. The story takes place fifteen years after the attempted human invasion of Pandora, with much of the original cast returning, including Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

The legendary Sigourney Weaver does a reprise as Dr. Grace Augustine and in an additional role. She works hard for the money! Other returnees include Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, and Giovanni Ribisi. Newcomers include Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, and Jermain Clement. Familiar faces such as Winslet, Falco, and others are not always easily recognizable in “performance capture” for the avatar roles. Job well done by the cast, but the real star of the show is undoubtedly the special effects. FX rules!

“Avatar: The Way of Water” has done very well at the box office, exceeding $1.5 billion income for producer-director-screenwriter James Cameron, 20th Century Studios, and its parent company Walt Disney Studios. Cameron and The Walt Disney Company have promised three sequels in the near future, Avatar 3, 4, & 5.
