Producer-director-screenwriter Wes Anderson has a new movie out called “Asteroid City.” The movie is filmed in his quirky style of narrative and unusual visuals, as in “The Grand Budapest Hotel” (2014) and “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” (2004). This film tells the story of a small town in the 1950’s Southwest United States that witnesses UFO events, with such offbeat performances by the actors and very attractive sets and scenery that it is impossible to stop watching.
The large ensemble cast of big names includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffery Wright, Tilda Swanson, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schriever, Hope Davis, Matt Dillon, William Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Carrell, Fisher Stevens, Rita Wilson, Bob Balaban, et al.
Wes Anderson did such a great job directing and writing that “Asteroid City” is very engrossing and moves very quickly. The filming took place in scenic parts of Spain, with excellent cinematography by Robert Yoeman. “Asteroid City” had pretty good income at the box office for an “art house” type of picture, from American Empirical Pictures and Indian Paintbrush Productions, distributed by Universal Pictures.
