“Anatomy of a Fall” is a legal drama movie, telling the story of a writer put on trial for murdering her husband. To add an additional layer of drama, their blind teenage son must testify. This is a well written and expertly directed film, with little down time, from French director Justine Triet, who penned the screenplay with Arthur Harari.
The cast members deliver fine performances, mostly in French but many scenes in English. The main actors are Sandra Huller as the accused murderer, Swann Arlaud as her attorney, Milo Machado-Graner as her husband, Antoine Reinartz as the prosecutor, and Samuel Theis as her son. Others include Jehnny Beth, Camille Rutheford, Saadia Bentaieb, Sophie Fillieres, Ann Rotger, and Messi as Snoop the dog.
“Anatomy of a Fall” is a very watchable film at a 152 minute running time, a box office success for Les Films Pelleas, Les Films de Pierre, and Le Pacte. It won seven Cesar Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Huller), Best Supporting Actor (Arlaud), Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound, and Producer of the Year (Marie-Ange Luciani).
