My Review

“An American Affair” is an engrossing film set in 1963 about a woman carrying on an affair with President John F. Kennedy, while her teenage neighbor across the street witnesses the comings and goings of the presidential entourage. The movie, directed by William Olsson and written by Alex Metcalf, has the elements of a coming-of-age drama and a political thriller. The story is reportedly based on the real life of JFK girl friend Mary Pinchot Meyer.

The capable cast includes Gretchen Mol as the central character, Cameron Bright as the teenage spy, Noah Wyle and Perrey Reeves as his parents, Mark Pellegrino as Mol’s ex-husband, and movie veteran James Rebhorn as a CIA agent.

“An American Affair” is an independently produced movie that was a big flop at the box office, but a watchable 93 minute escapist diversion on DVD.
