My Review

Director Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump” 1994) has released quite a dramatic World War II picture called “Allied.” It tells the story of a Canadian intelligence officer who marries a member of the French resistance. One year into their marriage, his superiors tell him that she might be a German spy.

Zemeckis and screenwriter Steven Knight keep things running smoothly until the second half of the film when story inconsistencies and far-fetched plotlines crop up. Despite these problems, the movie overall is watchable entertainment and worth a viewing.

Lead actors Brad Pitt and French actress Marion Cotillard are running on all cylinders with good acting and outstanding chemistry. The supporting cast includes Jared Harris, Matthew Goode, Lizzy Caplan, Anton Lesser, August Diehl, Marion Daley, Simon McBurney, Daniel Betts, Camille Cotton, Thierry Fremont, and Raffey Cassidy. “Allied” was not successful enough at the box office to cover production costs and advertising expenses for Mr. Zemeckis and Paramount Pictures.
