My Review

The worst film of 2009 is without a doubt “All About Steve.” This horrible try at a romantic comedy film was produced by Sandra Bullock, who also starred as a shy homely woman awkwardly pursuing a cable news cameraman. Director Phil Traill did not know what he was doing, probably because this was his directorial debut. The screenplay by Kim Barker is simply horrendous.

The supporting cast behind Sandra Bullock includes Bradley Cooper, Thomas Hayden Church, Ken Jeong, DJ Qualls, Katy Mixon, Beth Grant, Keith David, M. C. Gainey, and Howard Hesseman of “WKRP in Cincinnati” fame (1978-1982 on CBS). Despite the negative reviews, “All About Steve” was a modest hit in theatrical release for Fortis Films, Fox 2000 Pictures, and 20th Century Fox.

“All About Steve” was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards, winning two for Worst Actress (Bullock) and Worst Couple (Bullock and Cooper). Sandra Bullock went along with the fun, appearing in person at the ceremony to accept the Razzies. She brought along DVD copies of the movie and handed them out to everyone in the audience. Ironically, that same week she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for “The Blind Side,” making her one of the few people to win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year.
