My Review

“Alien: Romulus” is a science fiction horror film about six young space colonizers coming face-to-face with terrifying alien creatures while exploring a derelict space station. This ninth film in the “Alien” franchise is one of the best in years. Director Fede Alvarez (“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” 2018) has breathed new life into the series by returning to its roots: Casting largely unknown young actors as people dodging the aliens while traversing a space station, like Sigourney Weaver in the original film.

The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonnson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. Robert Bobroczkyi, a very tall Romanian basketball player, portrayed the “Offspring.” There was an android resembling Ash of the original film, played by the late Ian Holm, voiced here by Daniel Betts.

The very watchable “Alien: Romulus” has been a success in this 2024 summertime box office for producer Ridley Scott, Scott Free Productions, Brandywine Productions, TSG Entertainment, 20th Century Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. This new “Alien: Romulus” is set between the events of “Alien” (1979) and “Aliens” (1986).
