“Aladdin” is on the Disney remake list, now a live action version of the 1992 animated motion picture of the same name. While this Guy Ritchie-directed version is passable, it lacks the luster and the class of the original (remember “Sherlock Holmes” of 2009?). Ritchie also co-wrote the screenplay with John August.
The cast does display some energy, as they go through the motions of retelling a familiar story. The actors include Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Navid Negahbah as the Sultan. Despite flaws, “Aladdin” made The Walt Disney Company’s favorite wish come true by earning over one billion dollars at the global box office.
