My Review

“Adaptation” is a story from director Spike Jonze (“Being John Malkovich” 1999) about a writer’s effort to adapt a book to screenplay. This unimaginative and myopic film from Jonze and screenwriters Charlie Kaufman and Donald Kaufman is something only art house attendees will enjoy. Also members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as it was nominated for four Oscars and won one, for Best Supporting Actor for Chris Cooper.

Other cast members include Nicholas Cage, Meryl Streep, Cara Seymour, Brian Cox, Tilda Swinton, Ron Livingston, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Judy Greer, and Doug Jones. There are uncredited cameos by John Cusack, Catherine Keener, and John Malkovich. “Adaptation” is unwatchable nonsense from Intermedia Films, Magnet Productions, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing, a modest success at the box office.
